Joshua 1:8 (ERV) “Always remember what is written in that book of law. Speak about that book and study it day and night. Then you can be sure to obey what is written there. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything you do.” To begin with, the Bible is a God story which reveals His purpose for creation and man kind. Since the fall of man in Genesis 3, God has never forsaken man. His purpose for man is still as fresh as when He thought of creating him. In its entirety, the Bible identifies three important things that we must understand today. Firstly, the story of creation and fall of man, secondly, the trials man encountered after the fall and thirdly, the coming of Jesus Christ. After the fall of man in Genesis 3, Jesus could have come immediately, but it was necessary that the events recorded in the Bible take place first. The law that was given was not at all helpful, in-fact the more the laws, the more the man sinned. Because the law failed to save man, it was God’s time to sacrifice his only son Jesus in order to save man who is a precious creation to Him. So the purpose of the Bible is to point to us the importance of Jesus in the history of mankind. It helps us appreciate the coming of Jesus. That’s why we must read it, meditate it day and night if we are to understand the God of eternity, and that’s basically what eternal life is (John 17:3). To understand the entire bible, is to understand the precious Gift of Jesus Christ to mankind.
