Those that have understanding will receive more

Luke 8:18 (ERV) “So think carefully about what you are hearing. The people who have some understanding will receive more. But those who do not have understanding will lose even what they think they have.” In this scripture, Jesus cautions us to pay a keen attention to the things we hear. It is possible that one can be in church their entire lifetime yet never pay attention to any single sermon preached. Acts 17:11 speaks of a people known us Bereans. These people just didn’t listen to Paul preach but they went home and searched the scriptures daily to find out if what Paul said was so. The wise man tells us in proverbs 4:7 that the first step to becoming wise is to look for wisdom and to use everything one has to get understanding. Surely in the 21st century we have all it takes to acquire understanding. God has blessed us with a gift called internet that makes availability of resources so easy. If we don’t seek for understanding, even the little knowledge we have of God will be taken away as it will be diluted with the things we make priority. Let 2018 be a year we strive to understand the things God desires us to know.
